The livestreaming involves certain expenses at my end. First of all, I obviously need a bunch of technical equipment to get the music into the streaming application. Secondly, not only do I host this website but I as well rent a server on which I host the actual stream. Of course I need to buy the music that I air, too.
However, the biggest portion of the costs is linked to me playing music in public via this website. In Germany, most publicly played music requires the event organizer to pay license fees to Gesellschaft für musikalische Aufführungs- und mechanische Vervielfältigungsrechte (GEMA) as well as Gesellschaft zur Verwertung von Leistungsschutzrechten mbH (GVL). The notion behind this is that the artists and others involved in creating the music that I air get compensated for their effort. Considering the current license models of GEMA and GVL, I expect payments to GEMA and GVL of more than 160 EUR for every month which I buy a license for.
